Mitchell Storage & Distribution: Expanding Warehousing Capabilities

We are excited to announce our new partnership with Mitchell Storage & Distribution (MSD), a family-owned business with over 30 years of experience in the logistics and warehousing industry. MSD has chosen our platform to enhance its warehouse operations, improve inventory management, and expand its capabilities as it grows. This collaboration marks a significant step forward for MSD, enabling them to optimise their operations and deliver even better service to their clients.

Getting to Know MSD

MSD has been a prominent name in the logistics industry for over three decades. Founded in 1996 by the Mitchell family, the company has remained family-owned and operated, with the MSD actively involved in the day-to-day operations. Over the years, MSD has built a strong reputation for reliability, service quality, and innovation.

As a proud member and partner depot of Palletforce UK, MSD has been recognised with multiple awards, including the Chairman’s Depot of the Year “100% Club” 2023, the Spirit of the Network Award, and the Brand Ambassadors award in 2023. These accolades highlight Mitchell’s dedication to excellence and significant contributions to the logistics industry.

Why MSD Chose Clarus WMS

As MSD expanded and moved into a new warehouse last year, they recognised the need for a scalable warehouse management system to handle their growing operations. Previously, MSD had relied on an in-house bespoke WMS, but it became clear that the system needed to be more scalable and required significant investment in development, hardware, and ongoing maintenance.

MSD selected Clarus for its ability to seamlessly integrate with their existing systems, including their finance package, Sage 50. This integration allows MSD to leave charges directly in Sage 50, streamlining their invoicing process and reducing the need for manual input. Clarus provides a personalised, automated invoicing solution tailored to MSD’ business needs, ensuring error-minimised, on-time invoicing that aligns with client contracts.

Key features of Clarus WMS that appealed to MSD include:

  • Integration with Palletforce: MSD is a member of the Palletforce network and needed a WMS that could integrate smoothly with the Palletforce system. We offer this integration, enabling MSD to handle express palletised freight distribution across their extensive network efficiently.
  • Client Portal for Real-Time Visibility: MSD required a client portal to give customers real-time access to inventory, order status, and shipment tracking. Our platform delivers this functionality, allowing clients to securely log in and view the latest data through live database queries, ensuring data confidentiality and providing full audit trail visibility.
  • Optimised Pallet Management: We use barcodes for real-time tracking, algorithm-based storage allocation, and seamless integration with warehouse equipment. This optimises the handling and storage of palletised goods, allowing MSD to manage pallets in and out, including mixed pallets efficiently.
  • Batch Codes and Dates Tracking: Upon product arrival, our platform records essential details such as batch/lot numbers, production dates, shelf life, and quality attributes. This information is stored in a centralised database, linked to respective batch/lot numbers for effortless retrieval and reference, ensuring full traceability and compliance with industry standards.

Dean Stevens, Senior Operations Manager at MSD, emphasised the importance of these features for their business. “As we continue to grow, having a scalable and integrated warehouse management system is crucial for us,” said Stevens. “Clarus has provided us with the flexibility and functionality we need to optimise our operations, improve client visibility, and ensure that we can meet the increasing demands of our business. The seamless integration with Sage 50 and Palletforce has been instrumental in enhancing our efficiency and allowing us to focus on delivering exceptional service to our clients.”

A Partnership Built on Innovation and Growth

The partnership between MSD and us is already delivering positive results, with the initial implementation of Clarus bringing significant improvements in warehouse operations. By optimising inventory management, enhancing client visibility, and streamlining invoicing, MSD is better equipped to handle their expanding business and continue their tradition of excellence in logistics and warehousing.

“We are proud to partner with MSD, a company with a long-standing reputation for quality and innovation,” said Glen Wilkinson of Clarus WMS. “Our WMS is designed to meet the unique challenges of modern warehouse operations, particularly in managing palletised goods and providing real-time data access to clients. We are confident that our collaboration will drive significant value for MSD, enhancing their operational capabilities and supporting their continued growth.”

As the partnership between MSD and us continues to develop, both companies focus on exploring new innovation and growth opportunities. With Clarus WMS fully integrated into their operations, MSD is well-positioned to expand their service offerings, improve efficiency, and maintain their status as a leader in the logistics industry.
